A community of faith

We gather as friends to grow more deeply in faith, to educate our children in the Good News of a loving Savior, and to worship an Almighty God.

Steeped in History

Our congregation began in 1697 in the Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow, made famous by Washington Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." We worship there on summer Sundays.

Come as you are

People from many different traditions have a spiritual home in the Reformed Church of the Tarrytowns. We come together before God and one another just as we are.

The Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow: Legends & Lore of the Oldest Church in New York

Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow: Legends & Lore of the Oldest Church in New YorkThis entertaining book brings you the stories behind the historic Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., made famous around the world by Washington Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow."  Discover the haunt of the Headless Horseman, and read the true tales of the church, the oldest in New York, and its members. More than 150 color photos, artworks and maps illustrate the text. Among the highlights: Frederick Philipse, the richest man in New York, who built the church in 1685 but wasn't altogether saintly; the superstitious Dutch colonists who inspired a young Washington Irving; local Revolutionary War heroes buried in the churchyard, including the "hero with the goose gun; the real Catrina Van Tassel and others behind the "Legend" characters; the remarkable pastors who graced the pedestal pulpit; General George Washington's visit during the Revolution; the folk-art headstones in the old Burying Ground; and the church's colonial treasures.

Old Dutch Church Is Now Wheelchair Accessible

Pictured above is the new entrance to the Old Dutch Church of Sleepy Hollow. The renovation work was completed last spring. A new stairway  with an enlarged platform at the top has replaced the former uneven steps up to the church door. The church is easily accessible via a wheelchair ramp, which connects to paved paths through the Burying Ground and also to a sidewalk from the parking area.
